How to Clean and Store Your Pet’s Accessories

To clean pet accessories, start by separating their uses. A bottle, waste scooper, brush and carrier will not necessarily need the same cleaning method.

Sort before washing
Keep drinking equipment apart from waste-handling items. Check manufacturer instructions for removable parts, materials and compatible cleaning products.
- Bottle and bowl: empty remaining water and inspect folds and seals.
- Poop scooper: remove waste and the used bag before cleaning.
- Brush: clear collected hair and protect electrical parts.
- Carrier: remove only permitted detachable pieces and check the base, closures and vents.
Follow the instructions
Do not assume an item is dishwasher-safe or can be submerged. Check that a cleaning product is compatible before use and avoid residues or strong smells.
Keep household cleaning products out of animals’ reach. If a component is damaged or cannot be cleaned properly, look into replacement options.
Dry before storage
Let parts dry in a ventilated place. Check recesses, seams and areas beneath seals before closing a bottle or folding a bag.
Create three separate areas: clean equipment ready to go, items drying and items waiting to be washed. This makes it harder to accidentally reuse something that is still dirty.
